EV Charging levels
LEVEL 1 CHARGING
Level 1 charging is the simplest and most basic form of electric vehicle (EV) charging, typically using a standard household outlet. With Level 1 charging, your EV will charge at a rate of about 2-5 miles of range per hour, depending on the vehicle and battery capacity. This makes it a good option for overnight charging or for those with short commutes or access to charging at work. However, for those with longer commutes or higher daily driving needs, Level 1 charging may not be sufficient and a faster charging option such as Level 2 or Level 3 may be necessary.
LEVEL 3 CHARGING
Level 3 charging, also known as DC fast charging, is the fastest and most powerful EV charging option currently available. It requires specialized equipment and infrastructure, and can provide up to 100-350 miles of range in as little as 20-30 minutes of charging time, depending on the vehicle and charging station. Level 3 charging is typically found at public charging stations along major highways and travel routes, making it ideal for long-distance travel and road trips.
LEVEL 2 CHARGING
Level 2 charging is a faster and more powerful charging option than Level 1, and typically requires a dedicated charging station to be installed. With Level 2 charging, your EV can charge at a rate of 10-60 miles of range per hour, depending on the vehicle and charging station. This makes it a good option for daily charging needs or for those with longer commutes, as well as for public charging stations at shopping centers, workplaces, and other public areas.
